A Fundação Catarinense de Cultura (FCC), pessoa jurídica de direito público, foi criada oficialmente em 24 de abril de 1979 pelo Decreto Estadual nº 7439. Tem como missão valorizar a cultura por meio de ações que estimulem, promovam e preservem a memória e a produção artística catarinense. 

Seu compromisso é ser uma instituição reconhecida pela excelência na valorização da memória e estímulo à produção e difusão cultural, realizando suas ações de modo a democratizar o acesso à cultura no Estado de Santa Catarina. Para tanto, seu objetivo é executar políticas de apoio à cultura; formular, coordenar e executar programas de incentivo às manifestações artístico-culturais; estimular a pesquisa da arte e da cultura; apoiar instituições culturais públicas e privadas; incentivar a produção e a divulgação de eventos culturais e integrar a comunidade às atividades culturais.

A FCC trabalha com o patrimônio cultural de Santa Catarina, com ações efetivas na área museal, tombamentos de edificações e objetos com valor histórico-cultural, restauração, conservação de bens culturais, além do registro e valorização de bens culturais de natureza imaterial. A difusão artística também é uma das áreas de trabalho da FCC, por meio de oficinas, publicações especializadas e eventos artísticos de teatro, dança, música, pintura, fotografia, entre outros.

Tem sob sua responsabilidade o Teatro Alvaro de Carvalho (TAC), o Teatro Pedro Ivo, o complexo cultural do Centro Integrado de Cultura (CIC) - que compreende o Teatro Ademir Rosa, o Museu de Arte de Santa Catarina (Masc), o Museu de Imagem e Som (MIS/SC), as Oficinas de Arte, a Escolinha de Artes, o Espaço Cultural Lindolf Bell e a Biblioteca de Arte & Cultura.

Administra também a Galeria do Artesanato da Casa da Alfândega, a Biblioteca Pública de Santa Catarina, o Museu Histórico de Santa Catarina, a Casa da Literatura Catarinense Poeta Cruz e Sousa, o Museu Etnográfico Casa dos Açores (em Biguaçu), a Casa de Campo Governador Hercílio Luz (em Rancho Queimado) e o Museu Nacional do Mar - Embarcações Brasileiras (em São Francisco do Sul).

The Fundação Catarinense de Cultura - FCC (Santa Catarina State Cultural Foundation), a legal entity governed by public law, was formally created on April 24th, 1979, in compliance with State Decree nº 7439, undertaking the mission of valorizing culture by means of the support, promotion and preservation of the Santa Catarina State memory and its artistic production. 

It is committed to being recognized as a highly qualified institution in its pursue towards valorizing cultural memory and supporting cultural production and diffusion, making use of its prerogatives to provide democratic access to culture in the State of Santa Catarina. In this respect, its procedures encompass the implementation of policies in behalf of culture; the elaboration, coordination and implementation of programs in support of cultural and artistic expression; the stimulus to research in the field of culture and the arts; the provision of support to public and private cultural institutions; the promotion of cultural event production and propagation and the integration of communities into cultural activities.

Concerning the Santa Catarina State cultural heritage, FCC is directly committed with museum related activities, inventory and registration of real estate and objects of historical and cultural value, restoration and conservation of cultural assets and registration and valorization of nonmaterial cultural assets. The diffusion of the arts is another field of activity conducted by FCC, which is achieved through workshops, specialized publications and artistic events in areas such as theater, dance, music, painting and photography.

FCC is responsible for the theaters Teatro Alvaro de Carvalho - TAC, Teatro Pedro Ivo and the cultural center complex Centro Integrado de Cultura - CIC, which houses the theater Teatro Ademir Rosa, the museums Museu de Arte de Santa Catarina - MASC (the Art Museum of Santa Catarina) and Museu de Imagem e Som - MIS/SC (the Museum of Sound and Picture), the center for art workshops Oficinas de Artes, the Espaço Cultural Lindolf Bell (Lindolf Bell Cultural Hall) and  an Art & Culture Library.

It is also responsible for the administration of the arts and crafts center Casa da Alfândega; Biblioteca Pública de Santa Catarina (Santa Catarina Public Library); Museu Histórico de Santa Catarina (History Museum of Santa Catarina); Casa da Literatura Catarinense Poeta Cruz e Sousa (House of Literature from Santa Catarina Poet Cruz e Sousa); Museu Etnográfico Casa dos Açores (Casa dos Açores Ethnographic Museum), located in the village of Biguaçu; Museu Casa de Campo Governador Hercílio Luz (Casa de Campo Governador Hercílio Luz Museum), located in the village of Rancho Queimado and Museu Nacional do Mar - Embarcações Brasileiras (National Museum of the Sea - BrazilianVessels).
